What is Trichology
Trichology is the paramedical science of the hair and scalp. It focuses on diagnosing and treating disorders that affect hair growth, scalp health, and follicular function. While dermatologists study the skin as a whole, trichologists specialize specifically in the biological, chemical, and functional health of the scalp and hair shaft.
At its core, trichology explores:
- The structure and growth cycle of the hair (anagen, catagen, telogen phases)
- The impact of hormones, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies on hair follicles
- The role of the nervous system, immune response, and gut health in contributing to hair loss
- Scalp conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, folliculitis, and scalp sensitivity
